House Event 2018

When I attended the House Event last year, it had already become a show that I marked on my calender as a must-see event. So I was delighted when the organisers invited me to attend this year's event in my capacity as an interiors blogger. Hubby and I set off from Galway on Saturday and had a fantastic day at the show in the RDS.

Relevance

Unlike other events advertised under the banner of homes/interiors, you won't find any stands at House Events peddling floor mops and veggie slicers. House Event features cutting-edge design and hosts the top names in the industry nationwide. Names like Dermot Bannon, Suzie McAdam, Róisín Lafferty, and even international sensations like Annie Sloan, inventor of the chalk paint that almost single-handedly brought about the "upcycling" revolution.

Inspiration

The venue at the RDS is large enough to accomodate huge stands and full room sets, or even multi-room sets. This allows the visitor to completely immerse themselves in the very best of Irish interior design and gives an impression of how one might incorporate those ideas into their own homes. You can sit in the sitting rooms and open the cupboards in the kitchens. This is as close as you can get to real life at a temporary exhibition!

Enlightenment

The speakers at House Event are simply top-notch. It is always a highlight for me to attend the talks on the Inspiration Stage. This year, I also visited the Trend Talks and there is even a dedicated Upcycling Area. Every time I leave with a new idea about how to approach the functionality or design of our home.

I am always impressed by the wealth of talent we have in this country when it comes to crafts and design, and House Event showcases some of the best. What a great way to bring something really unique and special into your home, while supporting domestic industry and innovation.

If you only attend one home/interiors event a year, make it the House Event! In my book, it really is the big one on the Irish calendar.
